Niagara
Recertifies to QS-9000 Third Edition
In November
of 1997, Niagara Caps & Plugs, Erie PA became one of only a few hundred
companies in North America to obtain the prestigious QS-9000 registration.
On September 13, 2000 Niagara once again successfully re-certified
to the QS-9000 third edition, which also includes ISO-9001.
The
Goal for Quality Systems Requirements QS-9000 is the development
of fundamental quality systems that provide for continuous improvement,
emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation and
waste in the supply chain.
QS-9000
defines the fundamental systems expectations of Chrysler, Ford,
General Motors, truck manufacturers and other subscribing companies
for internal and external suppliers of production and satisfactions
beginning with conformance to quality requirements, and continuing
with reduction of variation and waste to benefit the final customers,
the supply base and themselves.
Niagara
chose UL to conduct these audits. The Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
registration (re-certification) program is designed to evaluate
and register facilities to various standards. The objective of
UL is to provide, by means of assessment and subsequent follow-up
assessment (i.e. continuous assessments); independent assurance
of a facility's capability to consistently provide products and/or
services, which conform to given specifications.
Underwriters
Laboratories (UL) conducts surveillance audits every six (6) months.
